Alcudia
Alcudia is the largest, most diverse and popular resort on the island, with its 12 km of white sand it has one of the longest beaches; indeed there are many riding enthusiasts who take their horses to enjoy a long gallop, and a beneficial swim out of season. During the season however, it is a haven for families, due to the attraction of its white sands and shallow waters.
Alcudia could be described as a trio of resorts, the harbour for instance offers a myriad of bars and cafes where one can sit and watch the world go by, as you partake of something refreshing. Then there is the new town, the hub, where you will find everything for family entertainment, plus the famous nightlife!
The majority of hotels and apartments abound in this area, most of which have direct access to the beach; there is a local train which will transport you around the resort, an invaluable boon to assist the uninitiated. Then there is the fascinating ancient walled town, once the original capital of Mallorca in Roman times, which houses the ruins of the Roman city of Pollentia founded in 123 BC .
If history is your thing then this is a must see along with the magnificent amphitheatre. The Church of St. Anne and the bullring is also deserving of a visit, both dating back to the invasion of the Romans. The old town’s cobbled streets play host to many boutiques which dwell happily alongside the ancient houses. Here you will absorb the typical Spanish atmosphere of this wonderful place and undoubtedly feel entrenched in its long and varied history. In short Alcudia has something to offer everyone.
