Mallorca - Daytime
The island’s entertainment facilities, which can be found close by hotels and apartments in almost all the island’s resorts, offer variety and something unique to each for you to enjoy your holiday to the full. Travel agencies organize day-long excursions to the Drach Caves and Artà, amongst other places, or else the Roman remains of Pollentia in Alcúdia, the beach of Formentor, the Carthusian Monastery at Valldemossa, the Port of Cala Figuera and the islands of Dragonera and Cabrera. However, if you prefer not to go so far, you can while away the hours walking around the surrounding areas and going on country walks.
Other alternatives include aquatic parks, a drive-in safari park, a dolphinarium, exotic birds, historic gardens or areas open to visitors such as the natural park, the “Albufera”, in Muro.
Sports
On an island surrounded by the sea, the top sport has to be sailing, from those who sail to Mallorca in their own boat or hire one here to go dinghy sailing or surfing.
Other equally good ways of enjoying the sea anywhere in Mallorca are organized boat trips or boat or pedalo-hire. Courses are also run in sailing, scuba diving, canoeing, diving, swimming and water-skiing in many different parts of the island.
Aided by the good weather, cyclists pedal up or down the sometimes gentle, sometimes steep mountain slopes, whilst on the flat others play golf at one of the eighteen available clubs. Others go paragliding, gliding or take a hot-air balloon trip. There are many different possibilities for those who love open spaces.
Those keen on horse-riding can choose from more than a dozen clubs at which to enjoy their favourite sport. Alternatively, they can learn how to do it either in the clubs’ premises or on rides across the surrounding countryside. There are also two race-tracks, in Palma and in Manacor. Here, at weekends, trotting races with light horsecarts are held.
You can play many other sports during your stay in Mallorca: tennis, indoor football, volleyball, pétanque, go-karting etc, not to mention others like hiking, climbing or underwater fishing (accompanied of course by a monitor and after all the necessary training).
Palma also has five sports centres and municipal swimming pools, like that of “Son Hugo” (opened on the occasion of the Palma 1999 Student Olympics). Recent wins by “Real Mallorca” and its new Stadium, “Son Moix”, have led to increased interest in the football team all over Europe and every two weeks you can see them in action.
Health
Most professionals become immersed in a high-pressured life that increases their need to take a break every now and then. There is nothing better to remedy everyday tiredness than to take short breaks. A weekend off can be enough to cut connections with work and constant obligations
Moreover, you can make the most of your break by undergoing therapies designed to that end. There is a constant increase in the number of hotels offering facilities for thalassotherapy, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and equipped with beauty centres, gyms, etc. Mallorca has a wide range of health-related spa hotels both in the city and in areas surrounded by stunningly beautiful calm landscapes.
On the other hand, we also have modern residential homes for older people with exquisite decoration, great comfort and kind service that will make you feel as if you were in a first-class hotel.
To be on the safe side we include a list of hospitals, clinics and health centres, indicating specialisation or specialists,in the tourist areas of Mallorca. The island has a large number of modernised and recently built clinics using last-generation technology. So you can visit Mallorca with the knowledge that you will feel better.

Craftsmanship
With Spain’s membership of the European Union, Mallorca has opened it’s doors to the other fourteen member states and, as a result, you can find the same European products on offer in Mallorca as in any other city. However, it still offers a wide range of luxury items and traditional goods which are actually made in Mallorca. Although theseproducts are exported worldwide, visits can be made to the island’s factories and workshops in which they are produced where you will definitely find a greater selection of goods at much better prices.
Mallorcan jewellery was well-known long ago. Nowadays, you can find a big variety of shops and workshops selling the island’s characteristic gold or silver work. The pearls made in Mallorca also make unique gifts for their beauty and long life.
The island’s shoe-making industry, based in Inca, Selva and Lluchmajor, produces modern designs and well-known brand names which are worn worldwide, carrying the name of Mallorca far and wide. Other products typical of the island are its leatherwear and cotton cloths featuring old Mallorcan designs.
Another traditional, highly-refined form of workmanship are the typical Mallorcan embroideries, table linen and antimacassars normally found in all the island’s houses.
There are three Mallorcan glass factories, each specializing in different qualities of glass, design and colour. The factories are open to visitors and you can see the glass being blown. In a country as rural as this, local pottery can also be found of course, with all types of pots on sale for general use and decoration. The most emblematic is the “siurell”: a figure made of white terracotta decorated with dashes of primary colours.
